Firmwide Market Risk is an independent control group which is overseen by the Chief Risk Officer, a member of the Management Committee and the Risk Committee.  Firmwide Market Risk works in partnership with the lines of business to provide risk advisory and control of market risk.  Market risk management seeks to facilitate efficient risk/return decisions, reduce volatility in operating performance, and make the Firm’s market risk profile transparent to senior management, the Board of Directors and regulators.  Market risk coverage staff has regular dialogue with traders around risk appetite, risk limits and individual large and complex transactions.
 
Firmwide Market Risk performs the following primary functions:
  • Regular dialogue with the trading businesses and coverage risk managers with respect to risk appetite, risk limits and individual large and complex transactions.
  • Independent ongoing identification, monitoring and control of business unit and firmwide market risk
  • Performance of stress testing and qualitative risk assessments
  • Analysis of aggregated risks and tail risk exposure with focus on revenue volatility
  • Facilitation of efficient risk-return decisions
 
Job Responsibilities
  • Monitor risk exposures, understand the factors that drive the risk and P&L on the books, follow market movement/activities affecting positions, highlight and discuss risk changes and top risks.
  • Develop understanding of various exotics products and the key risks associated with them.
  • Be innovative in looking for threats and weaknesses in the risk profile – be pro-active in bringing these to the attention of the trading business and Market Risk management
  • Conduct ad-hoc and regular risk analysis as well deep dives into various risk themes, and communicate findings
  • Get to grips with a complex excel-based exotic derivative pricing environment, trading and risk information systems.
  • Be familiar with Firmwide Stress Initiative process’s and regulatory risk reporting requirements
  • Aggregation and interpretation of risk for senior stakeholders
  • Very strong academically; Exposure to calculus, statistics and probability will be a distinct advantage
  • Knowledge of derivative products will be a plus
  • Experience of Microsoft products including Excel (to VB level) and Access.  Statistical software ( R ) a plus.
  • Understanding of the principles of IT and systems
  • Lateral thinker, tenacious, commitment to getting things done and detail focused
  • Ability to form constructive professional relationships with a wide variety of colleagues
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
