Senior AIX/Unix Engineer

Job Description

The Global Compute Services group is one of the technology infrastructure organization for the firm, delivering a wide range of products and services, and partnering with all lines of business to provide high quality service delivery, exceptional project execution and financially disciplined approaches and processes in the most cost effective manner. The objective of the ICSteam within GCS is to balance both business alignment and the centralized delivery of core products and services. GTI is designed to address the unique infrastructure needs of specific lines of business and the demand to leverage economies of scale across the firm.
The ICS CSS Unix group within Global Compute Services is responsible for compute service support and delivery. GCS IaaS works to assure the server environment under Global Services Operations (GSO) has the processes and tools needed for proper support. The team is focused on proactively driving service improvement through automation and resiliency efforts such as identifying single points of failure and gaps within the estate. The team collaborates with GCS Engineering for enhancement support and testing. The team is a global organization which also provides escalation remediation for priority issues.
The GCS Group within JPMorgan Chase is actively seeking a AIX Unix Engineer with an in-depth knowledge of the IBM AIX operating system. This person will be regarded as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
Responsibilities include:
  • Work closely with engineering and the service owner to deliver releases into the production environment
  • Develop tools to streamline production processes
  • Be able to identify areas in the environment to reduce risk and increase stability
  • Work closely with the different GTI support organizations to drive priority issues through to resolution
  • Provide root cause analysis
  • Attend incident reports meetings for priority issues.
  • Perform proactive duties to enhance the supportability of the environment via scripting, perl or CF Engine
  • Candidate must be able to work independently as well as with a group
  • Individual will be required to provide weekend escalation support on a rotating basis
  • Minimum of 12+ years professional experience working with AIX (5,6,7)servers in a large, mission critical global production enterprise.
  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience
  • AIX Certifications a plus
  • Working understanding of Keon and LDAP
  • Understanding of security best practices for multi-tiered operating systems
  • Advanced scripting abilities with Shell and Perl
  • In depth knowledge of AIX VIOS configuration a must
  • Working knowledge of HACMP , Power HA
  • Working knowledge of GPFS
  • Understanding of backup process, system monitoring, performance tuning, disaster recovery, and scripting for AIX, Linux and Solaris based OS
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and must be able to multi-task
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop strong client relationships
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Tivoli
  • Knowledge of Open SSH
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Working knowledge of Oracle clustering and ASM
  • Knowledge of MS Suite a plus
  • Programming development skills with Perl, C, C++ a plus
  • Experience with CFEngine is a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of kernel modules and tuning
  • Experience testing software solutions and implementations
  • Knowledge of doing vmcore/crash dump analysis
