CIB Credit Risk – EMEA Primary Credit Officer - Executive Director

Job Description

CIB Credit Risk is an integral part of a broader CIB platform and works closely with businesses and functions across the Corporate and Investment Bank, including Debt Capital Markets, ALF, Derivatives, Treasury Services, M&A, GCB and Trade Finance. Given the broad sector and client base that the team covers, the team is focused on performing credit analysis on clients which cover the full range of the credit spectrum and the structuring and documenting of a wide variety of credit products. Key products include:

  • Acquisition/Infrastructure debt financings

  • Leverage buy-out;

  • High Yield, Hybrid and Investment Grade Bonds (and bridges thereto);

  • Syndicated and bilateral loans;

  • Corporate derivatives (eg  fx, interest rate, commodities, inflation);

  • Trade finance including ECA financings, LCs, supply chain finance;

  • Treasury service products.

 

In recognition of increasing activity, a new position at the Executive Director (ED) level is being established, based in Paris, as Primary Credit Officer for CIB-managed Corporates incorporated in France and/or with French Country of Assets. Part of the role will also be to support the recently announced Commercial Banking Expansion Initiative in France.

 

The role will report into the Head of Corporate Credit for Diversified Industries & Branches in EMEA based in London and matrix into Commercial Banking Credit Risk based in the US for CB activity.

 

Core Responsibilities: 

  • As Primary Credit Officer, be the internal and local credit expert for a portfolio of clients. Proactively manage the ongoing credit relationship and exposure of the firm’s clients, including undertaking a variety of ongoing portfolio management activities, which may include:  interaction with other risk management groups to manage transaction or portfolio risk dynamically, and assessing the overall credit quality of an assigned portfolio through semi-annual risk reviews;
  • Provide local credit expertise to both Commercial Banking Credit Risk (US) and Commercial Banking coverage (France) in support of the expansion of the Commercial Bank in France
  • Develop a network of contacts both (i) internally, with client executives, industry advisers, product specialists, credit officers, and legal and (ii) externally, with clients, lawyers and with other financial institutions.
  • Contribute more broadly as a senior member of JPMC Paris Branch, including participation in local governance committees and interaction with local regulators, auditors etc.
  • Anticipate future requirements in location and build/recruit requisite skill base

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Proven track record of exercising credit authority at a minimum level of C2;

  • Fluent French speaker and detailed experience/knowledge of key structuring, documentation and credit issues of operating under French Law (including the insolvency regime) with ability to opine on documentation and probe/conduct due diligence in local language as appropriate;

  • Experience of operating across the credit spectrum from large high Investment Grade to lowly rated or unrated, credit intensive corporates, a number of whom will be privately/family-owned, as well as potentially new clients for the firm;

  • Multi-product expertise, including loans, derivatives, treasury and trade products

  • Deep existing network within JPMC Paris Branch and within JPM Credit Risk.

 

Essential skills, experience, and qualifications:

  • Strong leadership, management and business partnership skills.

  • Ability to interact well with clients, senior colleagues and juniors, including ability to organize and direct credit deal teams across geographies

  • Holistic and probing mindset and ability to focus quickly on key issues and act decisively with balanced judgment and problem solving mentality

  • Ability to understand the (local) business and market context while being protective of the Firm’s Risk

  • High level of analytical skills, ability to analyze complex credit structures & ensure the attendant credit risks are identified and mitigated 

  • Experience of complex cross-border credit and derivatives transactions and expertise with multi-jurisdictional legal documentation

  • Strong knowledge of JPM Credit Policy and procedures

  • Presence & substance to interact successfully with local Regulators, auditors etc.

  • Ability and willingness to coach and train

  • Good communication skills, spoken and written with a fluency in French and English
