The Legal Specialist III (LSIII) is responsible for researching loans currently involved in all levels of Mortgage Banking litigation and executing related sworn documents. The LSIII will primarily be charged with providing timely and accurate responses to Legal Discovery demands including, but not limited to, Interrogatories, Requests for Admission, and Requests for Production. In this function, the LSIII works very closely with business partners and investors, colleagues in the Legal Department, and outside counsel to provide timely and accurate information to help Chase defend the lawsuit. The LSIII must perform extensive systematic and process related loan account research, including building customized loan histories and providing our counsel with a comprehensive package of loan information detailing the facts applicable to the allegations made against Chase within specific deadlines. As a result of validating the discovery responses and executing the required documentation, the LSIII may also be called upon periodically to be the Chase Representative at mediations, hearings, discovery depositions, and/or at trial. The LSIII must be able to multi task, know how to prioritize their work, meet deadlines, and be extremely detail oriented. Failure to do so could result in significant losses to the investor and/or to Chase. The LSIII must be able to achieve positive results while dealing in a high volume, stressful environment. The LSIII must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. A strong command and deep knowledge of the foreclosure process and all related processes is essential. Legal training, such as paralegal certification, would be advantageous, but not necessarily a requirement. Some travel may be necessary.
College degree required; paralegal certificate is preferred
Minimum of three (3) years experience in mortgage servicing environment, preferably within an area of customer service research and/or legal, foreclosure and bankruptcy or related fields, i.e., law firm, title company
Minimum of one (1) years experience in litigation environment
Familiarity with litigation related documents (pleadings, affidavits, etc.) and litigation process, gained through work experience
Familiarity with mortgage servicing databases
Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with a proven record of exercising sound judgment
Computer software knowledge, preferably Microsoft office products (Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, etc.)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must
