The Compliance group is part of the Risk and Compliance department and provides oversight of compliance risk globally across all of JPMorgan Chase’s lines of business and corporate functions.    The primary purpose of the newly established Strategy and Innovation team is to assist senior Compliance management in the establishment of a strategic improvement agenda and in its execution.
The Strategy and Innovation team is responsible for leading critical strategic, diagnostic, and process improvement throughout the Compliance department and in support of Compliance’s strategic agenda with the ultimate goal of improving risk management effectiveness and efficiency.  Typical projects are sponsored by the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and the CCOs of the lines of business and require development and implementation of innovative process, organizational, analytical and technology improvements.
Key responsibilities of the team will include:
  • Assisting the Compliance management team in accomplishing the department’s mission by: 1) developing a strategic agenda for delivering on that mission; 2) ensuring specific improvement action plans in line with the strategy including significant tactical improvements (as collected in the Annual Compliance Plan)
  • Assisting in the development and execution of strategic action plans by providing general management resources with skills including:
    • Strategic Analysis
    • Re-engineering and process improvement
    • Written and verbal communications
  • Leading and driving select strategic projects that are cross-Compliance
  • Conducting operational reviews to identify opportunities to enhance effectiveness and efficiency
  • Tracking progress of strategic initiatives against goals
  • Coordinating consulting engagements that are in line with the Compliance strategic agenda
  • Coordinating identification, qualification, progress tracking and business analyst support for technology innovation opportunities including:
    • Robotics & Machine learning projects
    • Identification and qualification of FinTech opportunities applicable to Compliance in partnership with Compliance Technology staff
  • Championing innovation for the Compliance department including:
    • Leading Compliance’s efforts on innovation in achieving a cultural change in partnership with Risk
    • Ensuring a suitable review and response to new ideas
    • Assist in conducting bi-annual brain storming sessions with Compliance Innovation Champions and other initiatives such as facilitating annual ‘Shark Tank’ and ‘July Innovation’ month events
  • Understanding the structure of other innovation efforts within and outside JPMorgan for applicability to Compliance
Job Description
In the role of Associate, you will typically:
  • Work on a project / work stream to help the management of Compliance to prioritize, lead, and execute strategy and innovation  projects across Compliance
  • Assist in the development of project plans and will document and analyze business systems and processes
  • Perform analysis to identify major issues and actionable opportunities, designing potential solutions, and quantifying bottom-line financial impact
  • Support the program wide governance and project management
  • Assist with the development of management, stakeholder and regulator presentations to communicate issues, recommendations and status of initiatives
  • Serve as liaison between the Compliance staff and architecture/development teams to effectively interpret business clients’ needs and create business solutions
  • Assist in monitoring the financial services and technology industries for opportunities to apply new technology in Compliance
  • 3-6 years experience in financial services or with a top-tier management consulting firm, internal consulting team or other demonstrated experience of strategy and innovation experience required
  • College degree required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite  - Must be able to create process flows using Visio; Must be able to use Excel to analyze data/numbers and tell a story via charts and graphs with the results; Should be familiar with Project and SharePoint for team collaboration and project artifacts

  • Analytical –highly analytical with experience in defining analytical approaches for projects and applying a range of analytical tools to synthesize insights and develop solutions
  • Project management – able to scope projects and create workable project plans.  Candidate must be able to meet commitments and balance competing priorities
  • Client management – demonstrate the ability to partner with line managers and other stakeholders on projects
  • Communications – possess strong written and oral executive-level communications skills
  • Technology – sufficient knowledge of emerging technologies such as robotics and machine learning to identify potential opportunities to apply them to improve performance
  • Service Oriented shows initiative through problem identification, ownership and resolution
  • Motivated  enthusiastic self-starter who can work effectively under pressure
  • Detail oriented  possesses a high level of attention to detail and quality for their work product
