Business Management Analyst - Intellectual Property Management

As a member of the Intellectual Property Management Team, Office of the Chief Information Officer, you will be part of a team tasked with managing and expanding critical business partnerships across all lines of business.  The group’s mandate includes:


1.  Protecting products and innovation to give JPMC a competitive advantage and freedom to operate

2.  Defending against claims of patent infringement

3.  Adding value through licensing IP rights, supporting business deals, and sharing innovation cross-line of business

4.  Advising on M&A transactions and potential utilities with external stakeholders

5. Provide valuable research and insight to support business development among technology, product development, and digital innovation teams


Team members assume hands-on leadership roles in these high priority initiatives and work closely with Senior Business, Operations, and Technology managers to align IP strategy to their business initiatives.  Key responsibilities for the incoming Associate include:


Program Leadership/Management:

  • Manage multiple efforts simultaneously across a broad range of functions, business and organizational units
  • Provide intellectual property insights to support  business and technology strategy decisions  
  • Identify and bring together the right resources, content experts and decision makers to meet goals.
  • Identify new and efficient ways to accomplish tasks within appropriate deadlines
  • Design processes and tools that yield sustainable improvement and return on investment

Internal Business Development:

  • Build relationships with business, operations, and technology management, internal inventors, and stakeholders
  • Drive, coordinate and develop firm-wide IP reports which include: proactive industry reports, competitive intelligence reports, and company deep-dives
  • Be an expert on industry IP trends and emerging technologies
  • Proactively identify and address risks and opportunities relating to the firm as a whole or specific projects
  • Communication & Awareness
  • Support and participate in location engagement strategy – strategic site visits to global location hubs
  • Clearly articulate program goals to stakeholders and collaborators
  • Differentiate communication approach based on target audiences

We are looking for candidates who have an accomplished history and eagerness in effectively managing large, complex projects and driving change, ideally in financial services and/or technology.  Key qualifications include:

  • 2-4 years of relevant (e.g., business management, research & analytics, technology, program management, etc.) experience
  • Knowledge of intellectual property and understanding of emerging technology trends
  • Experience and drive to create leading research reports that will be distributed to business leaders
  • Experience managing and working with geographically distributed and functionally diverse work-groups
  • Experience working in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Comfort with ambiguity and dynamically shifting priorities, timelines, and demands
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage in dialogue with senior management
  • Able to conduct clear analysis, logical structuring, and creative problem solving on critical issues
  • Proven collaboration, influencing, and leadership skills
  • Ability to network with internal stakeholder community to foster positive and proactive collaboration
