Senior Associate - Strategy & Process Improvement (Global Technology Strategy & Process ImprovementI)

Job Description

CAO Strategy & Process Improvement (S&PI) is a dedicated internal consulting group with a mandate to lead critical strategic transformation efforts focused on the Firm’s most urgent needs.
Key objectives include helping front-office businesses (e.g., Banking teams) as well as internal functions (e.g., Technology, Operations, Finance, and Risk) make decisions that result in more efficient processes, greater client impact, and an improved bottom line. The group is made up of approximately 100 consultants, who are divided into central teams (Core S&PI), functionally aligned teams (Global Technology S&PI), and business-aligned teams (Asset Management S&PI, Consumer & Community Banking S&PI, and Commercial Banking S&PI).
Specific to Global Technology (GT) S&PI, all of our programs have direct CIO and GT Operating Committee sponsorship, and are executed at the CIO and/or CIO-1 level.  Engagement focus areas include:

  • Technology Strategy, Planning & Support
  • Expense Diagnostic
  • Operating Model & Capability Build-out
  • Benchmarking
  • Process Efficiency Review & Improvement
  • Sourcing & Solution Model
  • Organizational Design & Functional Restructuring
  • Complex Program Leadership & Change Management

S&PI follows a hypothesis-driven, fact-based approach to problem solving. The ability to solve critical business problems along with the diversity and backgrounds of individuals distinguish S&PI from other areas of the Firm. Typical project teams are comprised of 2 to 6 members, most of whom are former management consultants from top consulting firms (McKinsey, BCG, Strategy&, etc.). Projects are usually 2 to 4 months in duration, depending on complexity and scope.
Thought Leadership
  • Work with business and technology stakeholders to define and drive strategy
  • Maintain familiarity with industry trends / best practices to stimulate creative problem-solving
  • Develop program charters, business cases, project plans, team structure, and governance models
Client Leadership
  • Learn and practice complex program leadership and change management skills aligned to our GT S&PI capabilities, including:
    • Demonstrate ability to communicate with and align senior stakeholders against a common goal
    • Plan, mobilize, and drive change for complex, highly-matrixed efforts through leadership experience, tools, and processes
    • Identify corrective actions for in-flight efforts
  • Able to influence client stakeholders to take action / facilitate buy-in of recommendations
  • Demonstrate ability to clearly communicate in all written and oral mediums
  • Act as trusted advisor, with advice sought by clients beyond scope of engagement
  • Conduct clear analysis, logical structuring, and creative problem solving on critical issues
  • Create and apply appropriate conceptual frameworks to push thinking and expand solution sets
  • Assess risks, costs, and benefits of alternative decisions and approaches
  • Design processes and tools that yield sustainable improvement and return on investment
  • Proactively identify and address risks and opportunities relating to the firm as a whole or specific projects
Team Leadership
  • Actively invest in building and developing relationships with team members
  • Involved in broader S&PI team efforts
    • Identify, design, develop, and drive business-as-usual processes and continuous improvement opportunities for our GT S&PI team and colleagues
    • Participate in JPMorgan Chase & Co. and/or external community organizations and activities, aligned with your personal interests, to enhance your skills, networks, and experiences outside of your day-to-day project work
    • Identify and successfully complete training curriculum that supports your professional development needs
  • MBA or an advanced degree from a top-tier program is preferable
  • 2-4 years consulting experience with a top-tier management consulting firm or an internal consulting / corporate strategy team
  • Strong client management and executive-level communication skills
  • Ability to structure a variety of problems and apply analytical tools to develop solutions
  • Financial services background is preferred, but not mandatory
  • Technology domain background is preferred, but not mandatory
