Commercial Banking - Finance - Internal Controls and Quality Assurance– Associate

Job Description

The Quality Assurance function (QA) within the Commercial Bank’s Controllers group further enhances the overall control framework for external reporting and will complement other internal control functions including Audit, Finance Control, Risk Management and Compliance. This function has recently expanded to include the firmwide wholesale lending portfolio in support of wholesale lending’s Firmwide External Reporting Controller.  The QA group assesses high risk areas and performs detailed transaction-level substantive testing as well as internal control reviews in order to assess the overall quality of the external reporting and control environment.   This group’s efforts will also allow for increased attestation requirements for capital stress testing submissions.
This Associate role will be part of a team responsible for the following:
  • Analyzing critical Commercial Bank and wholesale lending metrics and performing detailed risk and control assessments to identify areas requiring detailed testing
  • Implementing specific testing strategies for high risk areas
  • Sampling end to end transaction processing (back to source documentation), and resulting balances reported externally, as well as assessing the effectiveness of key controls and documentation including Risk Control Self Assessments (RCSA)
  • Communicating issues and presenting recommendations including opportunities to strengthen internal controls as well to improve operational efficiency
  • Staying current with evolving industry and regulatory changes and analyzing impact to external reporting process and compliance
  • Coordinating QA activities with the Corporate Financial Reporting QA team
  • Meeting frequently with Audit and SOX teams to ensure proper coverage and eliminate duplication of efforts
  • 2 to 5+ years in an Audit, Accounting, Credit Risk, Internal Control and/or Finance role
  • BS in Accounting or Finance
  • Solid analytical and creative thinking skills
  • Ability to respectfully challenge the status quo and raise issues timely
  • Ability to document and prepare executive-level presentations of findings  (PowerPoint)
  • Ability to understand the big picture while maintaining a detailed focus on reporting requirements
  • Good judgment and a willingness to make decisions
  • Ability to make connections and understand potential impacts across entities, businesses, and function
  • Knowledge of Regulatory/SEC reports and related requirements a plus
  • Knowledge of and experience with credit and risk systems a huge plus
