This position is a senior architect responsible for the technical and process solutions to Mortgage Banking’s most important, enterprise-wide projects.   This IT leader is responsible for ensuring the delivered solutions meet the critical business needs while complying with and advancing the IT strategic direction for Mortgage Banking (MB).  This leader is also responsible for maintaining and building reference material which describes the existing MB technology assets and their alignment within Chase Consumer and Community Banking (CCB) functions and capabilities.


The Application Architect works directly with business and IT leaders across CCB lines of business to understand the business need, the current architecture, and to evaluate solution options and impacts.  The Application Architect works with IT personnel across disciplines (data, infrastructure, development, production support) and with LOB business operations to define and deliver the recommended solutions.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Lead project architecture decision making for the most visible and important active investments within Mortgage Banking.
  • Define formal reference architecture and guiding principles that direct project solutions. 
  • Create early-phase concept assessments and oversee project estimations that help leaders organize business cases for investment decisions.
  • Systematically identify key capability investments across projects and formally propose restructuring of projects, investments, or designs to accommodate broader enterprise objectives within the company’s current active project portfolio.
  • Lead the delivery of end-to-end project architecture decisions and deliverables as a part of the company’s project delivery framework.
  • Drive the Mortgage Banking solutions adoption and alignment with shared CCB IT assets.
  • Define formal architecture exceptions where deviations exist from reference architecture and guiding principles; and communicate exceptions to the CCB Chief Architect and the CCB Chief Information Officer.
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of reference documentation of Mortgage Banking’s technology assets, including current state architecture and total cost of ownership models.
  • Establish and maintain architecture project management controls and deliverable tracking via the architecture PMO.
  • Partner closely and build strong relationships with business leaders and represent the face of technology.
  • Bring thought leadership & work collaboratively across the firm-wide CIO organization on innovation, improvement & efficiency programs.   
  • BS  or BA in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering
  • A minimum of 5 years of IT development experience, including programming experience in an advanced language
  • A minimum of 3 years of leading system design, including large enterprise solutions that integrate multiple systems
  • Prior experience in reference architecture definition
  • Performance testing, Data Design, Security, or Infrastructure design is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and presentation, are required
  • Excellent planning, interpersonal, influencing, and problem solving skills are required
  • Must have demonstrated ability to motivate people & find common ground to achieve architecture objectives
  • Requires technical understanding of TOGAF, Zachman or other architecture frameworks
