Director Advisory Services (DAS) is a J.P. Morgan Investment Banking client service and global advisory team focused upon directors of public company boards and how to better connect those directors to JPMorgan Chase. The group advises J.P. Morgan corporate clients on Board level appointments by:

  • Cultivating networks of qualified board candidates known by JPM and making referrals to JPM client companies, including selections that enhance composition and expertise and anticipate and fill their evolving needs

  • Hosting regular events and presentations, including annual nonexecutive director summits globally that involve hundreds of current and prospective directors in a networking and educational forum, featuring case studies and thematic discussions around major issues facing boards

  • Designing content for distribution to the “J.P. Morgan Director Community”

  • Consulting and coordinating with JPMC senior management and JPM senior investment bankers on cross developing such activities, expertise and candidate referral

Position Summary - Responsibilities:

The successful Executive Director / Managing Director North American Lead will be an experienced, ambitious self-starter focused on North American clients, serving as the team’s point person on client relationship management and service plan execution, while helping evolve a business strategy actionable on a global basis. The position reports into the Head of Director Advisory Services and will be based in New York City.

Aspects of this role include but are not limited to:

  • Point person for all discussions with CEOs and Board Chairs with respect to their board needs

  • Approving all referral slates generated by the team prior to submission to the clients

  • Creative solutions that address the needs of our clients

  • Managing senior level relationships, including at the C-Suite, Board and senior banker levels

  • Overseeing a three-to-four member team and an extensive database of director candidates

  • Meeting and cultivating external director candidates referred by J.P. Morgan bankers and other sources

  • Understanding of and conversant in the financial market place – its business, news/trends and dynamics

  • Staying abreast of and fluent in Board of Director duties, including typical committee structure and responsibilities (e.g., corporate governance, compensation, audit, public policy, risk policy), along with topics and trends around shareholder activism, board diversity and increasing interest in perspectives beyond the norm – e.g., business line/divisional management

  • Organizing events (webcasts, external dinners and summits) for the J.P. Morgan Director Community

  • Good match making: a combo of dynamic, critical and instinctive thinking that can well assess talent and synthesize with client needs

  • Managing client and candidate relationships, including lead times and processes for director selection that can last for months and involve frequent follow-ups on search referrals, networking connections and coaching

Qualifications and Personal/Professional Attributes:

  • Bachelors' degree required; MBA is preferred

  • Minimum of 12 years of professional experience; ideally, substantive involvement in senior executive/director search and recruiting

  • Previous experience in Investment Banking is highly desired

  • Resourceful, innovative individual and team leader/player who can problem solve, inspire and mentor team partners, and drive execution and results

  • Ability to comfortably interact with business clients, management and colleagues at all levels

  • Highly organized, detail oriented and proactive

  • Ability to multitask several projects

  • Ability to communicate concepts and ideas both verbally and via documentation

  • Excellent technology skills with strong Excel (macros, pivot tables, look-ups and filtering) and PowerPoint skills

  • Highest level of discretion and integrity

  • Important that this person display maturity, good judgment and strong professionalism
