Job Description

The Environmental Risk Management (ERM) team, a part of Real Estate Services (RES), fulfills the policy requirements for environmental review under the Real Estate Lending Policy. As internal environmental subject matter experts, we identify, define, and quantify environmental risks associated with real estate. We guide the banking teams to close transactions by managing and mitigating these risks.


The Environmental Risk Analyst provides independent decision making which supports the Environmental Risk Review Team and assists the Environmental Risk Coordinator. Incumbents will interface with internal departments and external consultants performing due diligence studies to explain the findings, conclusions, and recommendations in those reports. In addition, incumbents will assist their respective manager in developing standardized documentation/procedures, and administering special projects with an emphasis on development of technological tools to improve the efficiency of the Department’s delivery of services to internal clients. Incumbents will also perform administrative responsibilities in connection with the operation of the department.


Job Duties will include, but are not limited to:
1.     Procures and reviews government records/reports and/or historical records reports on environmental sites in connection with commercial and multi-family loan applications. Prepare response and/or recommendation memoranda.
2.     Maintains data records in tracking database.
3.     Distributes workload to Review Team from our database inbox
4.     Processes and records critical environmental information for future reference.
5.     Produces Addendum Memos (i.e. follow up memos to the deal team) with guidance
6.     Assists with Portfolios for both New Loans and Renewals
7.     Conducts Database testing, bug tracking, job aid development, issue tracking related to our new database
8.     Researches General Environmental Regulations and matters
9.      Assists in the creation and maintenance of help documents and informational desk aids.
10.                          Performs special projects as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education in environmental sciences or related fields, and at least two to three years’ experience administering risk management and loss prevention programs with an environmental consultant, lender or property management firm protecting that organization’s or clients’ commercial real estate activities and assets.
  • Environmental due diligence standards and techniques for identifying environmental conditions.
  • Techniques and practices for avoiding, reducing, and/or shifting environmental liability.
  • Principles and practices of real estate lending and collateral analyses.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access software as well as internet research tools and techniques.
