Corporate & Investment Bank Credit Risk Management is responsible for lending activities and related credit exposures. The group is organized by geography with teams aligned by industry. CIB Credit Risk Managers lead the client credit relationship in partnership with CIB Coverage.
 
The Asset Managers Credit Risk Team manages exposures arising from traditional lending and capital markets trading activities with North American based Asset Managers.  This position will include responsibility for covering the alternative asset management sector (financial sponsors, private equity and credit fund managers).  As a member of this team, Associates will continue to refine analytical skills in assessing the risk of fund managers and their investment strategies, trading activities and committed financing.  Associates will have responsibility for a portfolio of clients and serve as primary coverage for those credit relationships.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the structuring and assessment of traditional credit products, including client due diligence, financial analysis and modeling, preparation of credit approval memos and client reviews, as well as coordination with partners in SLF and IB Coverage on loan transactions
  • Conduct fundamental credit and sensitivity analysis on borrower cash flows and asset-based portfolios to support committed extensions of credit
  • Review and approve trading activity, including recommending margin requirements as well as structural enhancements
  • Set and communicate credit exposure appetite across trading products utilizing internal exposure methodologies
  • Oversee legal negotiations for traded products and traditional lending
  • Partner with colleagues from IB Coverage, Sales & Trading, Syndicated & Leveraged Finance, Debt Capital Markets, Global Corporate Bank, Prime Brokerage, Investor Client Management, Investor Services, Legal, and Ratings Advisory
  • Assess creditworthiness of clients and assign appropriate credit ratings
  • Maintain updated credit research on a portfolio of clients
  • Lead credit due diligence for bank and bond executions in tandem with M&A transactions, LBOs, and portfolio refinancings
  • Supervise, review and provide input on analysis and seek credit approval for all transactions individually or as part of a deal team
  • Perform Agent role for closed syndicated transactions, including negotiating and documenting amendments and waivers and communicating with other lenders
  • Lead the discussion and respond to questions regarding clients during internal and regulatory audits of the portfolio
  • Demonstrate ability to mentor/guide junior resources. Manage own workload and analyst's workload, delegate with appropriate guidance and ensure deadlines are understood and met, and where needed, confidently escalate to senior managers
  • Lead group-wide efficiency projects
  • Represent FIG Credit in firmwide projects and working groups
3 years of professional work experience in financial services preferred (investment banking or similar)
  • Credit/Market risk experience required
  • Knowledge of the Alternative Asset Manager sector preferred, including related forms of investment vehicles (committed capital funds, hedge funds, BDCs, REITs, securitizations)
  • Familiarity with asset-based and borrowing base lending within FIG sector preferred
  • Candidates should have some accounting and corporate finance coursework, or relevant work experience
  • Strong interest in client interaction and possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform well under pressure on teams in a demanding environment
  • Candidates should be highly proficient in Excel, Powerpoint and Word
