Global Technology Infrastructure (GTI) Global Service Operations (SO) is responsible for service support and delivery for JPMorgan Chase's Global Technology Infrastructure.  Through its Global Service Desk and Infrastructure Operations Centers, SO provides global, coordinated diagnostic and support services. 
 
JPMorgan Chase has one of the biggest storage environments in the World, servicing a heterogeneous compute system within geographically disperse setting. This position is part of the JPMorgan Chase SAN Storage support team; focusing in finding the underlying issues that impair our systems from performing at its best. Our goal is to fix issues before they impact the stability and resiliency of our applications.
 
This position requires an extensive background in SAN management and support, and experience with the server side as well. We support a widespread of OS version, age and configuration; including AIX, Linux, ESX and Windows.
 
Our environment is extremely complex, comprised of CISCO and BROCADE switches; EMC, HDS, SUN and IBM arrays, thus, this position requires an engineer that has a high level of energy and is seeking a challenge.
 
This position is anticipated to require the use of one or more High Security Access (HSA) systems.  Users of these systems are subject to enhanced screening which includes both criminal and credit background checks, and/or other enhanced screening at the time of accepting the position and on an annual basis thereafter.  The enhanced screening will need to be successfully completed prior to commencing employment or assignment.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide Level 2 support for distributed SAN technologies - fill lead operational role during escalated P1 incidents, ensuring that all required parties (internal and vendors) are on a bridge providing the requirement input in a timely manner
  • Drive results from external teams and lines of business to improve the technology or process
  • Oversight of root cause analysis related to incidents you are engaged in. Investigation into root cause using available information, leveraging vendor knowledge and support, and creation of remediation plans to rectify the problem across the estate.
  • Work with vendors in problem isolation and resolution
  • Projects excellent command of business knowledge and has the ability to solicit input from internal and external sources
  • Is recognized as a positive leader and frequently provides feedback and strategic recommendations to management
  • Frequently anticipates problems and analyzes ways to mitigate the risk
  • Affects change within sphere of influence and leads development of innovative improvements
  • Drives issue resolution, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to execute consistently on deliverables and communicate status updates and strategic direction to the community.
  • Creation of operational, configuration, and performance health check processes and procedures. Creation of run-books for work done by L1 & L2 operational teams periodically, and during an incident
  • Increase use of automation for workflow efficiency and for improved incident response, using recognized ticket systems for reporting breaks
  • Develop and promote standard operating procedures. Create processes and tooling for operational efficiency
  • Assessment of SAN infrastructure compliance with JPMC IT control policies, and creation and on-time execution of remediation plans for gaps identified
  • Conduct routine hardware and software audits to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines – identify remediation plans for gaps identified
  • Tune the SAN infrastructure to achieve optimum performance levels
    Participate in regular reviews of the SAN infrastructure, identifying risks and opportunities, for example by over provisioning the capacity
  • Review and participate in the engineering build lifecycle of new SAN products and services. Ensure they are operationally ready for deployment as part of the overall lifecycle of their development
Ensure high availability and resiliency across the SAN products and services

Required Experience:
  • Minimum of 7 years distributed SAN operational experience running multiple SAN storage technologies in a fast moving, mission-critical, large scale, global, (preferably financial services) operational environment
  • Experience of other SAN functional roles to supplement operational experience
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills – ability to get to the root of the problem, assess impact, and develop a resolution plan quickly, leveraging all available resources, is essential. Ability to identify tactical quick wins, as well as strategic long term remediation options are both essential skills
  • Organized and self-reliant with proven track record in managing multiple deliverables
    Enthusiastic style, able to work with disparate groups with often competing motivations
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, and team working skills
  • Good understanding of impact and importance of storage services to customers. Sense of urgency around critical issues.
  • Capable of acting as business liaison, translating business needs to technical requirements and providing point of contact to business and senior management during high impact incidents
  • Ability to tune a technical conversation according to the technical capability of the audience
  • Provides management with strategic and tactical recommendations for SAN environments
  • Demonstrates leadership - self starter, self motivated, and require minimal supervision

    Specific SAN Experience:
  • 7+ years experience in distributed storage environments, ideally in various roles including operational experience
  • 5+ years experience in an associated technology (Server, Networks)
  • Advanced experience of VMAX, VSP, HUS, XIV, along with associated HW based replication and point in time copy solutions. Experience with XIV and SUN arrays is a bonus.
  • Advanced experience of vendor tools for managing, configuring, and troubleshooting (including performance)
  • Advanced experience with large switched fabric environment for Brocade & Cisco
  • Advanced experience with HBAs and multi-pathing software
  • In depth experience with storage management CLI’s: EMC Solutions Enabler, Cisco SANOS, Brocade FOS
  • Ability to accurately troubleshoot low lever SAN fabric issues: Logical errors, congestion, light budget, etc
  • Strong scripting automation skills: Perl, Unix shell scripting (Ksh/Bash) and Expect.
  • Ability to mentor junior Storage Engineers on SAN Storage technologies, troubleshooting, and operational efficiency gains
  • Require expert level knowledge of EMC FAST-VP for VMAX
  • Strong performance troubleshooting of EMC VMAX/FAST-VP utilizing EMC Unisphere
  • Must have Expert knowledge of basic RAID, storage tiering, storage architecture concepts, storage virtualization, local and datacenter replication practices, and storage best practices
  • Must have experience in architecting, administrating, and troubleshooting Brocade Fabrics: zoning, aliasing, QoS, FC routing, and virtual fabrics. (FC to Ethernet bridging experience a plus)
  • Expert understanding of how server behaviors and IO load patterns affect storage (LUN Q-Depth, multipathing, application IO size, etc ).
