Morgan’s branches and subsidiaries outside the U.S. Our model is to partner with parent bankers, International Coverage Bankers and product and service specialists from areas such as Credit, Syndicated Finance, Treasury Services, Foreign Exchange, Trade Finance, Investment Management and Investment Banking to deliver the firm to these clients globally.
The Asia Pacific Region Head for Commercial Banking is responsible for Commercial Banking’s business in more than 12 countries across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.  Our country banking teams focus on identifying international banking opportunities at the foreign subsidiaries of our clients headquartered in the U.S. and Canada, and on providing relationship coverage to these subsidiaries.  These bankers also call as required on the parent headquarters, along with the parent bankers and International Coverage Bankers, to facilitate deeper penetration of the client's international needs and smooth execution on the opportunity. 
This position is based in Hong Kong or Singapore, and reports directly to the Head of International Banking for Commercial Banking, located in the U.S., and locally to the Chairman of APAC for J.P. Morgan.
Key Accountabilities / Major Responsibilities
  • Responsible for building out and managing the International Banking franchise in Asia Pacific region for Commercial Banking (CB).
  • Own and deliver against CB APAC financial targets to drive top line revenues and improve cost efficiency to achieve excellent operating margin results
  • Size the market and client opportunity.  Identify, solicit and develop new relationships and facilitate the expansion of these relationships regionally and globally throughout the CB International Banking Group. 
  • Lead and manage multiple teams of multinational bankers across the region, who as relationship managers are responsible for both KYC requirements in accordance with local regulations and executing against our client relationship plans. 
  • Select, develop, coach and ensure appropriate compensation for CB APAC employees.   
  • Work closely with the International Coverage Bankers in the U.S., and with the parent bankers, to identify opportunities and translate this to local business. Work with the U.S. teams to promote awareness of J.P. Morgan’s international capabilities as well as products/services in Asia Pacific with U.S. parents.
  • Responsible for handling all aspects of client relationships including structuring and execution of all types of banking transactions.  Provide quality and tailored banking solutions to CB clients through the partnership with various Product teams -- Treasury Services, Trade, Investment Banking and Foreign Exchange to deliver a comprehensive suite of solutions to clients.
  • Supervise credit teams to identify and assess credit transactions and documentation requirements, analyze complex financial information to structure appropriate client solutions, execute credit facility transactions.  The credit teams work with internal and external legal counsel on credit documentation, negotiate loan documentation with clients, liaise with AP credit risk management, credit middle office and loan operations to close credit transactions. 
  • Maintain strong risk & control culture, compliance and adherence to internal audit, regulatory and statutory requirements. 
  • Minimum 15 years of corporate banking and finance experience with solid understanding of the business and market dynamics, key challenges and competitive landscape of APAC.
  • Over 10 years of proven leadership, management, execution and influencing skills.  Strong people manager with a proven track record of managing in a multi-cultural, multi-geographic environment, and in developing talent.
  • Effective executive who can develop viable strategies as well as taking pragmatic steps to execute such strategies to grow the business with this client set.  Strong commercial judgement.
  • Proven sales and marketing capability to develop and maintain trusted client relationships as evidenced by winning new business and closing transactions.  Successful at delivering the entire firm to our clients.   
  • Good knowledge of general corporate banking products and services including debt products, working capital finance, cash management, trade finance, FX and derivatives products. 
  • Good credit analysis and structuring skills relating to cross border credit risk transactions.  Credit experience in both developed and emerging markets countries. 
  • Ability to form strong partnerships and work across lines of businesses and leverage internal resources.  Ability to navigate across the firm to get things done and work in an environment where there are multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
