The DevOps Engineer Manager is a leadership position in Operations Technology supporting the full range of Servicing applications and platforms for Consumer and Business Banking, Card, Mortgage, Chase Wealth Management, Auto and Digital.  The candidate will manage a team of DevOps engineers responsible for environment installation, configuration and upgrades, software builds, packaging and deployments, change/release management and setting technology direction and consistency across the Operations Technology Servicing tower.  The DevOps team will function as a small but highly technical group with a shared goal of managing top-notch software and hardware installations and deployments.  This position is very hands-on and requires a strong ability to adapt to challenging problems and an intense desire to work as part of a cohesive team.  All team members are expected to keep abreast of the latest industry trends, technologies, and frameworks and to display industry competitive skills and techniques.
Responsibilities
  • Manage infrastructure evaluation, selection, procurement, configuration and upgrades; ensure environments are refreshed and highly scalable with a focus on high availability and security.
  • Manage capacity planning, coordinate performance testing and analyze output to research/own any capacity or performance related issues across the environments.
  • Develop monitoring strategies and implement monitoring tools to identify problems before they occur and prevent outages.
  • Implement software configuration and automation tools to simplify the process of deploying and upgrading software across our environments.
  • Manage source control administration, access and versioning.
  • Manage software builds, merges, continuous integrations and automated deployments across all environments, including creation and management of Jenkins and ARM jobs.
  • Manage creation and review of implementation plans and coordinate all changes, upgrades and fixes across all environments.
  • Work closely with architects to ensure all systems are in line with GTI long-term strategy.
  • Analyze Servicing Operations business strategy and roadmap to uncover opportunities for improvements in our applications and infrastructure.
  • Define and implement DevOps quality guidelines and standards
 
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • 10 + years of experience working in information technology
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks at once, work independently and maintain professionalism under pressure
  • Passionate about operational excellence and documentation
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of DevOps processes and best practices
  • Broad range of experiences and understanding with web/internet technologies
  • Experience in bootstrap production and non-prod environments and overseeing sites with constant high traffic
  • Experience with Unix, Linux, RedHat to troubleshoot issues in complex, distributed, multi-tier architectures
  • Experience with Build, Continuous Integration and Automated Deployment technologies in a distributed development environment (e.g. Maven, Jenkins, ARM)
  • Experience with Version Control systems (e.g., Git/Stash, Subversion)
  • Experience with Monitoring and Logging tools (e.g. Splunk, Dynatrace, Nagios)
  • Experience with Websphere and Apache Tomcat application servers
  • Experience with Java/J2EE, Servlets/JSP, Spring Framework
  • Experience with DB2, Oracle and SQL databases preferred
