Development Lead - Big Data

Job Description

The Risk & Finance Technology organization is responsible for the end-to-end technology environment supporting Corporate Wide functions of Risk Management, Finance and Regulatory Reporting.

 

We are seeking a Development Lead who is highly skilled to join a centralized Architecture and Core Technology Group for the Data Acquisition and Hosting functions within Risk & Finance Technology.  Recent investments in this space have created the opportunity for us to think holistically about a technology architecture and framework that will provide the data foundation for applications developed to support the business in this space.  The main objective of this role is to participate in the design and implementation of this framework, establish a roadmap for convergence to this framework, and establish a light weight architecture collaboration and governance process to manage progress against the roadmap. 

 

This individual will play a key role in the design and development of core services and tools, with specific emphasis on leading the technical design and delivery of a set of foundation services to implement core components of a central Data Reservoir using Big Data Technologies.

 

The qualified individual will have a deep technology background with experience designing and implementing complex, enterprise applications, and the ability to effectively manage a global development team both direct and matrix.  Experience with data management hubs, workflow, rules engines, event models, data storage technologies, information and process modeling, and pub/sub messaging is required.  Effective communication of complex ideas is essential.  The candidate must have the proven ability to bring together diverse technical viewpoints and drive to accepted solutions.

Required Skill:
• Minimum seven years experience working as a Development Lead with a strong Java and Middleware background
• Proven track record designing and implementing complex, enterprise applications
• Experience with workflow, rules engines (e,g, DROOLS), event modeling and messaging
• Strong interest and knowledge of emerging technologies
• Identify off the shelf commercial and open source technologies for consideration as part of the designs and participate in the evaluation of such technologies.
• Scope development tasks and provide estimates of resources and time required by the development team across the development life cycle.
• Partner with Architects and other Leads to ensure solution meets requirements of all consumers and interacts seamlessly with existing applications
• Ability to effectively communicate on complex technical topics
• Proven ability to influence and partner across a complex organization
 
Design & Architecture Skills and Experience:
+ Deep knowledge and experience with OOP/OOD
  + Interfaces, Classes, Polymorphism, Inheritance, Reuse.
 + Design Patterns:  GoF (Gang of Four), MoM, SOA, MVC.
 + Experience developing Architectural Diagrams in Visio or PowerPoint.
 + Experience conducting Proof of Concepts and collecting metrics.
 + Huge Plus: Experience with Hadoop and Big Data development
 + Experience with Agile techniques
 + Experience conducting Code Reviews
Development Skills and Experience:
+ Core Java (Java 7+); Extensive experience with Core Java coding.
+ XML, JSON, AVRO and other common formats
 + Familiarity with JAXB, SAX, DOM, STAX, JSON Parsing, etc.
+ At minimum intermediate SQL Knowledge is a must (Oracle dialect is a plus).
+ JMS and other Messaging concepts.
+ Web Services Development:
+ REST Web Services (JAX-RS)
+ SOAP Web Services (JAX-WS)
+ Custom HTTP Servlet web-services based implementations
+ EJB 3.0 is a plus
 
+ Unix/Linux experience (Command Line/Perl/Shell/Python)
+ Maven and Build Scripts, Jenkins in a plus.
+ Job Scheduling: Autosys, Control-M, etc.
+ Big Plus: Big Data / NoSQL (Specifically Hadoop)
+ Hadoop
+ Hive
+ HBase
+ HDFS
+ Map-Reduce
+ Spark is a Plus
+ Oozie is a plus
+ MongoDB or other NoSQL databases
+ Graph Databases
+ Big Plus: Kakfa Messaging.
+ Plus: Distributed In-Memory Caching Technologies: Gemfire, SqlFire, Coherence
+ Plus: Integration with Python or other non-Java Languages based Clients via Web Service and Messaging.
+ Plus: Workflow Engine Integration with Java
 + Engine Examples: AquaLogic BPM, Oracle BPM, Tibco Staffware/Iprocess
+ Plus: Knowledge of ETL Frameworks such as: Abinitio and Informatica.
 + Integration of these tools with Hadoop is a big plus.
+ Prior Financial Services Industry experience, especially in the Risk or Finance Technology area or Reference Data experience.
