The JPMorgan Chase Legal department is responsible for providing legal services to the firm and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the lines of business and corporate staff areas of the company.  This structure facilitates effective discussion of legal, regulatory and business activities.
The Legal Documentation Program Director will report directly to the Chief Administrative Officer of Legal  and will lead the Legal documentation program, which is a key initiative of the Legal department’s strategic plan.  The Legal Documentation Program Director will establish the Legal operating model related to documentation standards, including linking legal obligations to documentation, reporting to facilitate work flow and documentation prioritization, defining document ownership and approval authority to enhance controls, and implementing other standards to drive process improvement and efficiency. This effort complements Firm-wide programs that aim to improve client experience, reduce legal and operational risk, and improve efficiency.
Key Responsibilities: 
  • Lead the legal strategic documentation program involving the setting of standards and guidelines, identification of Legal roles and responsibilities and formulation of principles and best practices Identify minimum standards and control expectations for all areas that create, ingest, store and maintain documents
  • Interact with senior members of the JPMC legal team as well as business, operational and risk executives across the Firm.
  • Develop an execution plan that includes new standards, controls, best-in-class technology and multiyear action plans 
  • Develop a legal engagement model and ongoing governance with the businesses and control functions that includes document ownership, storage, accessibility, connection to the legal requirements and, where appropriate, activities to support document reviews and other testing
  • Obtain senior level support with businesses and support organizations for firmwide governance; providing input where technology or operational investment is needed; influence and help drive groups across the firm towards shared goals
  • Provide oversight of cross-LOB document initiatives and build linkages to simplification and consolidation efforts across the firm and, ultimately, unify into a single documentation program
  • Drive operational effectiveness by identifying opportunities to develop a Legal central utility and/or consolidate efforts for documentation-related activities and for efficacy and simplification
  • Use both vision and analysis to motivate and influence stakeholders to take action/facilitate buy-in of recommendations
  • Take leadership in adjusting approach or focus as new insights are generated
  • Effectively manage senior management relationships, develop compelling communication strategy, and utilize resources, outside direct span of control, to undertake certain work
  • Establish tools, metrics and reporting to monitor completion of action plans, including regular analysis of results
  • Drive overall project success, measuring performance against established objectives
  • Develop executive presentations for both internal and external audiences
  • MBA or an advanced degree (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in process improvement, with a focus on eliminating bureaucracy
  • Excellent facilitation, project management and consultative skills with strong business acumen
  • Familiarity with a broad range of analytical tools/problem-solving approaches
  • Proven leader with experience in collaborating and negotiating across functions and levels
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to influence and impact change
  • Innovative, creative and results-oriented
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint tools
  • Experience working with Legal professionals a plus
