Associate - Client Reference Data Strategy

One of the top priorities across the Chief Administrative Office (CAO) at JPMorgan Chase is to help the firm move toward a more integrated data management strategy. The mandate of the CAO Reference Data Operations team is to manage reference data across the enterprise, establish firm-wide reference data governance processes and quality standards, provide direct accountability and oversight for all reference data operations teams, and partner with the lines of business to drive alignment to firm-wide standards. Our businesses and corporate groups rely on reference data to facilitate and execute transactions, support our clients, identify potential risks, and meet regulatory requirements.


The Client Reference Data Strategy team will drive the creation of a target-state operating model for Client Reference Data that is consistent across regions and lines of business. The team’s organizational change and functional strategy projects will: 

  • Define the overall Client Reference Data strategy by identifying and addressing gaps in existing Client Reference Data Operations functions and helping to build new functions as necessary

  • Define or refine team structure, staffing model, internal roles and responsibilities, and governance models for new and existing Client Reference Data functions

  • Ensure that the Client Reference Data Operations organization is structured optimally to deliver efficient and effective solutions to internal business partners

  • Identify synergies across Client Reference Data Operations functions

  • Drive performance improvement through improved end-to-end process design and management

  • Partner with adoption/implementation teams to identify and implement operational efficiencies

We are seeking candidates who can play a key role in developing these strategic initiatives. This role will require extensive interaction with stakeholders in the firm-wide Chief Administrative Office and business-aligned Chief Administrative Offices, in addition to the Chief Data Office.


The ideal candidate will have demonstrated strategic project experience, strong senior relationship management and communication skills, and the ability to help structure and develop solutions to complex problems. Strong critical and creative thinking skills and a willingness to work with ambiguity must be demonstrated. Previous experience driving strategic and tactical process improvement initiatives is highly desirable. A background in management/internal consulting or banking and/or experience at a high-growth technology firm or early-stage company is preferred.



  • Assist in structuring and executing operational and strategic initiatives by developing work plans, gathering and synthesizing relevant data, leading analyses, and developing final recommendations

  • Conduct interviews with key contacts across the organization to gather baseline information

  • Perform analysis to test hypotheses and size opportunities (including data gathering, modeling, and synthesis of results)

  • Develop and refine recommended solutions to address issues and capture opportunities

  • Present findings/analysis and recommendations to senior management

  • Develop materials and prepare team members for executive-level updates, as necessary

  • Achieve measurable targets and ensure project success

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of experience in a management/internal consulting, strategic planning, process re-engineering, or change management role.  In addition:
  • Experience in the financial services industry and/or financial industry knowledge highly desired
  • College degree from top-tier institution preferred
  • Problem solving skills: Strong ability to structure and scope complex problems, apply a range of analytical tools, gain and synthesize insights, and develop actionable recommendations
  • Analytical skills: Highly analytical, preferably with experience in defining analytical approaches for projects and collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing data from multiple sources to develop actionable solutions
  • Pipeline management skills: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/work streams, scope projects, and create workable project plans.  Candidate must be able to meet commitments and balance competing priorities
  • Client management skills: Demonstrated ability to closely partner with senior and line managers and other stakeholders on projects
  • Communications skills: Strong written and oral executive-level communications skills, including the ability to quickly adjust messages based on different audiences and agendas
  • Teamwork skills: Flexible work style and ability to work with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels
  • Flexibility to travel, as required
