Global Technology Infrastructure (GTI) is the technology infrastructure organization for the Firm, delivering a wide range of products and services, and partnering with all lines of business to provide high quality service delivery, exceptional project execution and financially disciplined approaches and processes in the most cost effective manner.


The Architecture team within GTI has a mission is to define technology standards, reference architectures and provide overall governance for the infrastructure functions in support of the Firm’s businesses, application’s and infrastructure partner’s current and future requirements. A strong focus of the team will be driving the GTI multi-year strategy through comprehensive roadmaps, driving standardization via adoption of GTI managed services, resiliency in designs to meet stated recovery objectives, and address performance, scalability, security and data protection objectives. The expectation is deep engagement direct with application development teams and specifically lead application architects on key initiatives.

This role is a Technology Domain Architect within the team. This is a senior position with the expectation of broad technology skills across a range of disciplines, plus a deep specialism were the individual is regarded as a thought leader. Fundamentally the expectation is to recruit real technical talent to the group.

The Technology Domain Architect is accountable for the development of cost effective end to end technical solutions, and is the single design authority for the prescribed solution. Working in partnership with the technical service areas as needed, external vendors and project management team as required. There is implicit accountability for the solution working as designed.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Partnering with senior Architects and Business Application Development teams to understand functional requirements of a projects and applications
  • Accountability to develop a key technical solution to meet those requirements and firmwide cost, resiliency and control requirements, leveraging standard building blocks as much as possible
  • Partnering with internal GTI experts from the Service Towers to help develop strategies, roadmaps and architecture proposals
  • Understanding fundamental GTI standard solution gaps, which are legitimate and which have biggest ROI to fix
  • Arranging and monitoring a solution to completion and ensuring project setup across GTI for success
  • Maintaining an effective technical network across GTI, knowing the “Go-To” SMEs in multiple service areas
  • Developing an effective network of senior Architects within 1 or more major Business Areas

Hard Skills / Requirements:                                                        

  • Engineering Degree in a technical discipline or similar experience
  • Is a Thought Leader in one of these major domains:
    • Networking – Router/Switch, Firewall, Load Balancing, Routing, Network Design, Low Latency networking, Market Data Networking, Exchange connectivity
    • Distributed – Server/Storage, Hypervisor, Market Data rate publication
    • Enterprise – Mainframe, Large Mid-Range (iSeries/Tandem/Vax)
    • Distributed – Database, Web, Messaging, Load Balancing, Ports, Firewalls, Java
  • Broad base technical knowledge covering:
    • Critical: A major programming language (C/C++/Java) including Network Programming (sockets/RPC)
    • Knowledge of multi-processing and multi-threading, and experience of such
    • Understanding Active/Active, Recovery methodologies at Disk and DB layers
  • Proven experience managing and working with culturally diverse and geographically distributed teams
  • Experience working through an application lifecycle from start to finish
  • Experience troubleshooting a project gone wrong and working to fix it, adjusting to major scope/design change
  • Experience working within  large global organization and building and maintaining a global network
  • Demonstrated ability establishing credibility with business executives, along with presenting to and influencing senior management
  • Effective Project and Program Management skills
