Reference Data Sr.Java Developer/Architect - Brooklyn

Job Description

The Reference Data Technology Instruments team (part of the RFT) provides reference data delivery solutions mastering and distributing instrument reference data across the various lines of businesses delivering Client, Account, Document, Instrument and Core Reference.



Design & implementation of large-scale software architectures

Experience with multiple types of databases

Solid background in data integration, staging, quality and distribution.

Fluency with database query languages like SQL with a demonstrated ability to author complex queries

Experience working on very large-scale data warehouses, transformation/analytics or storage systems

Strong software development skills (version control, code review, testing, release, monitoring, debugging)

Excellent development skills in Java

Experience with message passing and queueing

Extensive experience with financial data models

Experience within Unix/Linux environment

Experience with scripting (Perl & Shell)


Provides leadership and guidance for development and architecture design of high performance messaging, reporting and transaction processing products and/or services by defining and developing architectures, detailed designs specifications, development, implementations and successful delivery of the solution.

Works with developers, product managers, and customer application experts to define and implement solutions, products and modules with required features and functionality.

Assists with architectural guidance and leadership on best practices regarding software development, user interface design frameworks, high performance messaging solutions, server side development, reporting, integrations and tools and technologies.

Works with the business and systems team to identify the right architecture and technology for implementing new solutions, products and modules.

Develops technology blue-prints for solutions, products and services.

Design and code for Proof of Concepts with New Functionality/Technology and validate to eliminate technical risk.

Participates in or monitors industry standards groups to maintain strategic relations and formulate corporate strategy

Participates in governance of architecture best practices and the solutions which adopt it.

Supports the systems and business teams for estimates, analysis, design, development, performance, scalability and benchmark test guidance and providing subject matter expertise in technology and design.















1.       Core Java, key APIs are: JMS, JUnit and JDBC

2.       J2EE (Web Services, Servlets) with Tomcat application server

3.       Strong fundamentals in data structures, caching, multithreading, messaging and asynchronous communication

4.       JSON and XML – streaming parsers

5.       RDBMS/SQL (esp. Oracle, preferably to include writing stored procedures)

6.       RESTful web services development

7.       Message Brokers – WebSphere MQ

8.       Java Frameworks (Spring)

9.       Development tools (Maven, Jenkins, Eclipse)

10.    Familiarity with Linux and knowledge of command line

        11. Git / Subversion source control

        12. Should have built enterprise platform on No-SQL DB -- MongoDB.
