The Equity technology team supports 200+ EMEA Equity Portfolio Managers, Traders and Compliance and Risk users, mostly based in London, using a series of in-house and packaged applications.  The Equity business has experienced significant business growth over the last few years and has partnered with Technology to define a target application strategy which we are in the process of implementing. 


The new vacancy is a Technical Lead /Project Manager within the Asset Management Technology Equity group in EMEA.  The Technology team is structured using an Agile methodology residing in both our London office at Victoria Embankment and Glasgow.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Validate requirements with Equity Portfolio Managers, COO group, Compliance, Risk and other Technology teams. Facilitate impact analysis.
  • Maintain backlog of project/enhancement requests; understand priorities, manage demand and agree scope of releases
  • Define innovative business and technical solutions with the wider scrum team
  • Work across multiple impacted stakeholder groups to  agree proposed changes, including multiple developments team, primarily based in London, Glasgow and Hong Kong.
  • Carry out development on some stories; test and support the implementation / release process
  • Ensure ongoing communication with all stakeholders; manage weekly prioritisation sessions with senior stakeholders, presenting a clear and concise status of work in progress
  • Work with the support teams to review issues, conduct root cause analysis and ensure defects are prioritized and resolved
  • Line management responsibility of initially 1 junior member of the team
  • Work closely with peer development leads in the Trading and Research functional areas, with infrastructure, Support, Architecture, Chief Development Office and QA teams
  • Ensure that common tools and standards are followed; contribute to continuous improvement activities w.r.t. developers efficiency and quality.

Key Competencies

  • Prior client facing role in a structured environment
  • Very good understanding of the buy-side investment management business processes: Portfolio Management, Compliance and Trading

  • Experience managing several stakeholder groups with conflicting requirements and priorities

  • Strong communication skills; can communicate accurately and succinctly with the business users. Ability to translate technical detail into the appropriate relevance and significance to the business process for communication with end users

  • Strong analytical background and problem solving abilities

  • Strong technical background and technical skills

    • Strong knowledge of Java

    • .NET client development ; ideally C# WPF

    • XML, XSLT

    • Oracle database

    • SQL

    • Messaging, MQ JMS

    • RESTful web services

    • Unix shell scripting

    • Strong expertise in client-server and SOA architectures design and best practices

    • Performance tuning

    •  As a senior hands-on developer, good exposure to development toolsets and processes, use of continuous integration, peer reviews, security scanning etc..

    • Scrum master experience

    • Testing tools and frameworks: Junit, Cucumber/ Gherkins; hands-on experience of BDD, TDD

  • Good influencing skills
  • Ability to coach more junior members of the team
  • Pro-active and cooperative attitude
