About the Role and project
 
As an Applications Developer, you will participate in all facets of the development cycle for Global Alternatives applications. This includes design, analysis, development, coding, testing and documentation. You will partner closely with business partners and the broader GRA technology team. You will ensure your work products adhere to coding, architectural, and security standards as defined throughout Asset Management. A successful candidate must have relevant development experience.
 
Development projects will include new solutions/applications for the business as well as enhancements to existing applications. We employ Agile methodology with a distributed development team in NY and India. This person must have the ability to work on multiple projects and other assignments with minimal direct supervision.
 
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Utilize Agile methodology and adhere to coding standards, procedures and techniques while contributing to the technical code documentation.
  • Provide high quality technology solutions that address business needs developing applications within mature technology environments.
  • Analyze potential risks and benefits in using specified solutions to address business requirements.
  • Design, develop, code, test, debug and document.
  • Review design and functional specification prepared by other team members.
  • Collaborate with team and come up with solutions for any identified problem by team.
  • Deployment of newly build modules in QA and Production environment.
  • Manage code quality for total build effort.
  • Coordinate with end users during User Acceptance Testing.
  • Act as an escalation point for application support team
  • Analyzing and documenting problems, recommending solutions, and initiating corrective action.
  • Performing additional duties as required.
 
 
The following attributes and experience are essential:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of financial application development/consulting experience.
  • Solid design, coding, testing and debugging skills.
  • Hands on experience in J2EE technologies and SQL.
  • Must have working knowledge of commonly used design patterns.
  • Knowledge of version and revision control practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated high level understanding of installed applications and successful IT project delivery.
  • Must be result oriented and self-starter
  • Inclination towards learning and adapting to new frameworks / technologies.
     
The following technical skills are required:
 
  • Java / J2EE technologies (e.g. Core Java, JMS, JTA, JSP)
  • RESTFul webservices (Spring-MVC or JAX-RS or Apache CXF)
  • Strong understanding of HTML/XML, CSS stylesheet
  • Experience with web development using JavaScript frameworks like Angular JS, Ember, Knockout, or React, Kendo UI, Bootstrap and jQuery
  • Knowledge in Unit Testing tools like Jasmine and JUnit
  • Extremely hands-on with open source web technologies like Apache, Tomcat, Spring framework like MVC, Core (IOC/DOP), DAO (JDBC template), MyBatis, Hibernate etc.
  • Has exposure to web application using Ajax/JSON.
  • Prefer knowledge of messaging middleware such as WebSphere MQ.
  • MS SQL Server – Prefer experience in writing and debugging stored procedures and scripts
  • Familiarity with Source Code management techniques/tools for software management (SVN/GIT/Stash). Knowledge of release management, Automated Build and Deployment such as Jenkins and Hudson.
  • UNIX shell and shell scripting. Exposure to scheduling Tools such as Autosys/Control-M.
  • Experience with Agile/SCRUM a plus
  • Familiar with BDD.
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Business Administration and 2-3 years of financial application development/consulting experience.
