Infrastructure as a Service (IAAS) is accountable for the firm's global storage, GTI server portfolio of more than 30,000 instances and Monitoring and Capacity, across plan and operate functions. The organization drives product management, engineering standards and productivity initiatives for global server, storage, web, database, and monitoring technologies across the firm. Our goal is to deliver measurable business value by providing core technology solutions that meet business demand with a high degree of cost efficiency.

The IAAS L3 VMware team has a global presence as part of the GTI organization focused on improving operational efficiencies for the level 2 server operational teams. The team performs an incident escalation role and also drives and executes on longer term projects and engineering initiatives that input directly into operational efficiencies and service improvement.

As a Virtual Infrastructure Developer in the IAAS L3 VMware team will be responsible for:
  • Being a SME in the core VMware product suite and confident in your knowledge and experience of the surrounding and supporting technologies used within the bank
  • Identifying and executing on opportunities for automation and efficiencies in operational activity
  • Support innovative cloud-based solutions from the virtualization layer up through the software defined and cloud management platform stacks
  • Installation and development of workflows and decision trees for integration and automation in the cloud based solutions
  • Maintaining and improving effective partnerships with the Build, Operations and Engineering teams to drive service improvement
  • Help define, drive and prioritize the hygiene agenda, to ensure the core Vmware infrastructure is compliant with our health, risk and security agenda
  • Improve the product release process to ensure the smoothest transition from the engineering and architecture phases, through to operational support.
  • Contribute to incident reduction initiatives to drive operational overhead to a minimum
  • Drive to exit our Museum and End of Life infrastructure to help maximize vendor supportability and the stability of the environment.
  • Provide oversight of problem management in the environment to ensure P1 Incidents are resolved through to root cause
  • Provide leadership and direction during P1 incidents to ensure appropriate prioritization, focus and engagement
    • 7+ years infrastructure development experience in interfacing technologies such as networking, storage, virtualization, applications and data centre technologies
    • 5+ years experience supporting the VMware product suits e.g. vSphere, vCAC (vRealize), vCO (vRealize Orchestrator) and vCOPS or equivalent industry certifications and/or knowledge
    • 3+ years experience of hardware and server operating systems with a focus on ESX
    • Scripting skills – PowerShell, PowerCLI, JAVA, Perl & Shell Scripting are must.
    • Demonstrate understanding of object oriented programming models and logical processing
    • Demonstrable experience of data manipulation tools such as Excel and/or Microsoft Access
    • Experience of data analysis and the use of asset inventory management systems across a large and complex server estate ('000's)
    • Ability to develop and maintain strong peer/client/customer relationships underpinned by a service oriented approach to work
    • Project management (Prince2 foundation knowledge or above)
    • An understanding of ITIL concepts (foundation knowledge or above) and the ability to engage with JPMC established incident, problem and change management processes and procedures
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
    • A willingness to work to a flexible work schedule with the possibility of international travel
    • Ability to perform in a highly pressurized and changing work environment.
      Degree level education or equivalent caliber
