GWM Investment Risk Management provides oversight of GWM’s investment businesses to ensure that the risks taken in managed portfolios are appropriate to their investment objectives.  The team covers all investing activities within GWM - including investment strategies, managers and model portfolios - from product onboarding to monitoring and governance.  We conduct regular reviews of investment performance and risk, measuring against agreed criteria and objectives.  Investment Risk works closely with the other risk disciplines within GWM: Fiduciary risk, Credit risk, Operational risk and Reputational risk.
The team includes product-aligned and region-aligned Investment Risk Officers.  These risk professionals have primary responsibility for the oversight and governance of investment risk within their covered areas.  In addition, they provide valuable feedback to their Risk colleagues and to the businesses they cover regarding fiduciary issues and emerging risk- or market-related topics.
Role description and responsibilities
This position will drive the EMEA implementation of methodology, governance and oversight framework and tools required for independent risk oversight of the Managed Strategies & Solutions (MSS) and Global Solutions activities in EMEA working with the rest of EMEA Investment Risk team and regional risk officers.  As these are implemented, the role will transform into participating in the independent risk oversight of certain of these product areas as appropriate.  Primary responsibilities include:
  • Tactical and strategic implementation of oversight of EMEA managed internal strategies into the global oversight framework, working with the relevant MSS teams and US Investment Risk Managed Portfolio team
  • Work with the US Investment Risk Research team to develop consistent framework and tools for risk oversight of OTC derivatives strategies, structured products and other brokerage products offered by the EMEA Capital Markets and brokerage teams
  • Work with the US Investment Risk Research team and the rest of EMEA Investment Risk to develop and implement consistent framework and tools for market intelligence and analysis relevant to the business areas covered and escalate key risks on the horizon as they relate to EMEA
  • Support other regional businesses and regional risk officers to incorporate the above consistently for their regions
  • Implement controls and governance related to EMEA Investment Risk from the EMEA Product Governance workstream
  • Participate in related regulatory change projects
  • Input into New Business Initiatives Approval, in particular to incorporate regional requirements and solutions for broader platform set-up requirements
  • Project Management of roll-out of Investment Risk Management framework in EMEA
  • Project Management of roll-out of the IR framework to oversee the Brokerage business
  • Project Management of roll-out of the IR framework to oversee the Managed Strategies and Solution business.
  • 8 - 10 years of financial industry experience with focus on one or more of the following areas – global wealth management, manager due diligence, portfolio management, fund of funds , investment advisory, product structuring, fund analytics or market risk management
  • Self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects independently; capable of appropriately prioritising deliverables
  • Very high analytical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Strong partnership skills; experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Good financial products and associated risk management knowledge
  • Proven track record of ability to challenge business partners while working constructively to achieve a common goal; comfortable with challenging current practices
  • Control mentality - ability to anticipate potential issues or controls required and work with partners to ensure robust controls.



All internal moves will normally take place on the same grade and same salary. Salaries are reviewed annually in February. Exceptions to the rule regarding transfer on current salary may include a move between geographic locations.
