JPMorgan Direct Custody and Clearing business (DCC) operates from the Melbourne and Wellington offices and supports over 70 clients with processing their Australian / New Zealand Corporate Action, Income, Tax and Settlements while also providing oversight of support functions such as Reconciliation’s, Static data and Billing. DCC Operations in Melbourne and Wellington is part of the Investor Services Australia and New Zealand Operations team.

Position Summary:

 

This position is responsible for the processing of Fixed Interest income functions for the DCC Melbourne & NZ teams. The role will involve providing clients with a full end to end Fixed Interest Service with the main functions being:

 

·         Research & Announcement of all fixed interest events relevant to our client base;

·         Record Date balancing and reconciliation

·         Disbursement of all payments of cash to clients

·         Liaison with Client Services on client inquiries and offshore team for resolution of reconciliation breaks

 

The various functions performed by the team require the management and staff to be familiar with how the Australian Fixed Interest market operates and this includes a strong understanding of key systems such as SWIFT and EXIGO. The position is also expected to keep abreast of market changes to be able to assess the impact of any changes on the processing of Fixed Interest events.

 

  • Ensure market and internal client deadlines are met.
  • Play a leading role in the resolution of client impacting system and market issues
  • Stringent control procedures are adhered to and exceptions are escalated to Risk Management in line with agreed standards
  • Assist with projects and new initiatives as and when required by the business.

·         Leverage and maintain appropriate contacts with operational peers in Melbourne and Wellington

·         Ensure any errors are documented and escalated, with worked through action plans to minimise the reoccurrence and any risk to JPM.

 

In addition the role is also expected to protect the clients’ and Banks’ interests at all times and ensure that their integrity is maintained within the market place. To ensure department procedures are maintained and internal processes can adapt to market/client demands. To maintain optimum service level for all clients ensuring any reasons for and proposed solutions to, negative trends are documented and escalated.

The Specialist will need to have a strong understanding of Australian Custody Market.

A good knowledge of the functions in the BaNCS platform will need to be attained.

 

 

1.    Audit & Compliance

 

Ensure all relevant standard operating procedure are kept up to date and that they comply with audit requirements.

Be involved in the monthly self-department audits in preparation of Risk Management and Audit reviews, ensuring that all processes are being completed in accordance with the department SOP’s and controls. Any variance should be resolved, escalated and documentation completed and copied to management.

Additional processing and exceptional requirements not already approved by Risk Management are to be reviewed, re-modelled as required, procedures to be written around the process and submitted to all parties concerned including Risk Management for sign-off.

Review audit comments and ensure that any unfavourable audit points are addressed immediately to ensure compliance with future audit reviews.

2.     Operational

 

Escalate issues to the Team Leader and be involved in taking action to escalate and resolve with the other party. A review is to be done on the issue to ensure procedures are updated.

Investigate and when applicable, assist in implementing new procedures or systems that enhance the overall service of the group.

Ensure all work received is actioned, accounted for and all control procedures are adhered to. Issues raised must be either resolved or escalated if necessary.

To be involved in the resolution of outstanding issues, to make decisions based on precedent and experience when confronted with frequently conflicting priorities. Where necessary, liaise with other areas to agree a satisfactory conclusion, ensuring minimum impact to Investor Services

 

3.     Reporting

 

Be involved in the review of workflows, review reporting of all KRI’s, STEP rates and other MIS statistics required by management.

Assist in tracking trends in work volumes, including reconciliation errors and document any negative trends and proposed solutions.

 

 General Knowledge and Experience Required:

 

·       Understanding of Custody Business and Operations

·       Thorough knowledge of the Australian Financial Market

·      Ability to demonstrate good collaboration with peers

·       Exposure to, and clear understanding of, the end to end fixed income process, as it applies in custody

·       Ability to manage all stakeholders both internal and external

·      1+ years experience in Custody Operations

 

Formal Qualifications:

 

Tertiary qualification in business or related field preferred
