Global Fixed Income Currency and Commodities team (GFICC)
The Global Fixed Income Currency and Commodities team (GFICC) manages USD 406.2 billion in fixed income and currency assets (as at December 31 2015). The team, led by CIO and Global Head of GFICC, Bob Michele, consists of over 200 investment professionals, operating in every major market around the world. Our globally integrated, research driven approach to investing enables us to create long-lasting value for clients. Experienced investment professionals, based in various locations across the United States, Europe, Latin America and Asia, scan the markets daily for investment opportunities. Their insights are shared across our global group in a collaborative cross-border dialogue, ensuring that the best ideas are leveraged across all of our offerings.
The team oversees a broad range of fixed income strategies, including broad market, long duration, stable value, intermediate, high yield, emerging market debt, short and ultra short duration, global government bonds, structured products, mortgages and tax-aware strategies.
The Global Rates team is now looking to hire a portfolio manager to help manage our portfolios which are typically benchmarked to global government bond indices. Whilst government bonds form the core of our accounts’ exposures, the team can typically also invest in the extended fixed income sectors.
The investment process is based on GFICC’s process of having locally based teams across the globe focusing on mastering their markets through proprietary fundamental, quantitative and technical research that inform our investment decisions. We aim to be experts in our field and achieve this through rigorous in-house research as well as regular meetings with central bankers, government officials and policy makers, sell-side as well as independent economists or strategists. A strong understanding of economic data, bond and interest rate markets and a rigorous research process are pre-requisites that lead to strategy formulation and ultimately portfolio construction.
The Portfolio Manager will help manage our book of business and will be expected to implement fixed income strategies into our portfolios. The candidate will ideally have some previous or current experience in a portfolio management or fixed income role. The PM will be required to quickly understand our accounts’ guidelines, constraints, alpha targets, risk tolerance, and the PM will closely track risk utilization to ensure that accounts are on track to meet or exceed the targets, whilst limiting downside risks.
Our portfolios have strong 1 yr, 3 yrs, 5 yrs and since inception track records, and the PM will be tasked to help build on this as it will in turn help grow AUM. Our accounts have differing degrees of investment flexibility and the PM will ensure that we create the strategies that add alpha across our entire book of business. A good quantitative mind, ability to think through the consequences of individual strategy changes on the portfolio’s overall positioning and diligence in order to be compliant at all times with guidelines are required. The PM must be able to quickly master our portfolio management system (PRISM) as well as be on top of issues surrounding pre and post trade compliance checks, ongoing calibration and tracking of risk, and be able to explain performance to clients either directly or working collaboratively with Client Portfolio Managers (CPMs).
The PM must also be able to help shape the future direction of the team and contribute to the research process, particularly Quantitative, to ensure that we remain on top of market developments and take a systematic approach to investing in fixed income markets.
