Job Description

Commercial Banking - Risk Operating Metrics Program - Vice President

Chicago, IL or New York

Commercial Banking (CB) delivers extensive industry knowledge, local expertise and dedicated service to more than 24,000 global clients, including corporations, municipalities, financial institutions and not-for-profit organizations along with nearly 35,000 real estate investors/owners.

Commercial Banking Risk is a 1,500 FTE global organization providing world-class credit risk management, underwriting, and support services for all CB credit products and exposures.

A strategic priority for CB Risk is to ensure that best-in-class operational metrics & analytical tools are in place, allowing the team to continually optimize performance in capacity planning, process improvement, efficiency, client experience, client profitability, and control.

This is a high-visibility opportunity.  The Business Analysis & Reporting Manager will join a global Data & Business Architecture (DNA) group, leading a strategic operational metrics program from the ground up for a key Risk functional organization.  The successful candidate will learn core business processes and partner with Risk managers, Finance teams, Technology teams, and global DNA team resources to lead both strategy and execution of an operational metrics reporting & analytics program.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Define, monitor, and report key operational metrics, mining data from all available data sources; create a robust documentation suite to clearly articulate data definitions while highlighting data quality gaps for inclusion in Technology and Process Improvement roadmaps
  • Prepare an operational Monthly Business Review (MBR) presentation, incorporating key people, productivity, efficiency, client experience, cost, and control metrics.  Review in senior manager forums and speak fluently to patterns in observed data
  • Conduct time studies for each key process to understand activity-level effort requirements. Manage ongoing time study refresh in response to process changes
  • Develop a headcount capacity and forecasting model to ensure appropriate staffing levels in anticipation of expected volume patterns; refresh based on actually observed monthly volumes
  • Interface with finance teams to translate capacity model, taxonomy, and volumes into activity-based unit cost allocations at the client level
  • Provide a high level of responsiveness to executive ad-hoc requests related to process improvement analysis and “what-if” scenario modeling

Required Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of total experience within MIS, Operations, Finance, and/or Management Consulting roles.  The successful candidate will have a unique mix of technical data skills and business acumen, with strong past experience in operational process monitoring & management.  Importantly, he/she will have demonstrated ability to set a strategic management reporting vision from scratch while consulting with senior executives on thoughts to improve operational performance, not just deliver reporting
  • Experience developing complex business analysis models, preferably in support of volume capacity and forecasting initiatives
  • Proven experience delivering timely, high quality, senior manager-level reporting and analysis from diverse, complex data sources.  Attention to detail a must with focus on executive quality presentation
  • Excellent communication, project management, and client partnership ability
  • Advanced-level ability expected in all MS Office tools (Excel, Pivot Tables, Access, VBA, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data warehousing concepts and exposure to one or more Business Intelligence toolsets and database platforms: SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Tableau , Analysis Services (SSAS), Qlikview, Business Objects, SAS, Crystal, R, SQL/Oracle/Teradata, etc
  • BS/BA required; quantitative focus strongly preferred
