Team Summary:


Fund Accounting Department is part of Investor Services and provides audited investment valuations, accounting and related reporting such as tax, compliance and performance to its clients, it is also responsible for the calculation and release of daily unit prices in conjunction with performance figures to clients & financial markets. Clients include large industry superannuation funds, investment management unit trusts based in Australia as well as other locations within Asia Pacific such as New Zealand.


Position Summary:


The Head of the Fund Accounting Department Manager is responsible for the overall management of the group. The individual is responsible for all aspects of staff management and development for their respective team, client management & change, daily unit pricing delivery & monthly fund accounting reporting.
The team support a number of Superannuation Funds (unitized or a non unitized) & managed investment schemes/unlisted unit trusts.

From an operational perspective the responsibilities include: strategic production management, quality control, adherence to JPM internal control standards, maintaining a robust risk management framework, liaising with external auditors. From a client management perspective the responsibilities include strategic client service; planning & approval of new services and first point of escalation for servicing issues. From a leadership perspective the individual must be a figurehead for the demonstration of all JPMorgan values and also be responsible for ensuring that all staff follows the JPMorgan values.


Key Accountabilities / Major Responsibilities:


Client Management
  • Provide technical and consultative directiont for existing and new clients on Unit pricing &  Fund Accounting reporting.
  • Manage the transition in of new clients from an accounting & unit pricing perspective perspective, that ties in to the overall transition plans provided by the New Business Group, to provide a seamless deliverable to the new client.
  • Manage the clients to ensure that the service level is commensurate with the importance to JPMorgan, and is within the parameters set within the Accounting and Valuation agreement.
  • Ensure service levels to internal clients are also as high as to external, and ensure communication with the other areas of Investor Services (Relationship Managers (RM), Customer Service Managers (CSM)).
  • Escalate client issues on a timely basis to the Head of Fund Accounting , and RM / CSM.  This includes incidence of scope creep.
    Strategy and Execution
  • Have a  proven track record in change management with a focus on operational risk to improve accuracy through the  implementation of  projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate key leadership in the strategic direciton of the department and build out of new and enhanced platform
  • Attend to and contribute to Business Initiatives across the Investor Services business groups.
  • Develop and maintain a culture of risk awareness. Achieve satisfactory audit ratings from internal and external auditors.  Ensure that controls are kept up to date and are effective, to ensure no audit issues are raised and are adequate for future business growth.
  • Empower the team to improve the process without compromising the accuracy and timeliness of reporting.  Ensure a strong control environment is maintained as the business grows.

  • Work with the senior management team to meet common goals, and to ensure that there is backup and coverage for critical areas of the role in case of absence.
  • Take ownership of  problems and issues resolution
  • Work in partnership and influence cross business groups including Relationship Managers, Customer Service, MBM and Sydney Operations and Technology to deliver on business and client objectives
  • Prioritise and manage responsibilities in accordance with their importance and in line with the goals and strategy of the group.

Qualifications & Experience Required:




  • Degree level qualification in Accounting, Mathematics, Economics or similar discipline preferred
  • Completion of, or currently studying towards, a relevant post graduate qualification (e.g. CA, CPA, CFA or Masters of Applied Finance) highly regarded



  • Strong staff management and leadership skills
  • Strong working knowledge of the concepts of custody business
  • Strong working knowledge of financial markets and instruments, both domestic and global – includes investment fundamentals, investment management/objectives and keeping up to date with market information.
  • Experience in Fund Administration and unit pricing background. Should be a proven change manager.
