RESPONSIBILITIES
 
To provide legal coverage for a broad range of lending transactions undertaken by the Corporate and Investment Bank in the Asia-Pacific region (ex Japan and Australia), based either in Hong Kong or Singapore, depending on the candidate.
 
In particular, primary responsibilities will include:
  • Reviewing, negotiating and assisting with drafting of lending, security and related documentation
  • Assisting the business with deal structuring and terms from legal and risk perspective
  • Advising management and other functional partners on legal and regulatory issues generally
  • Instructing and working with external counsel, reviewing and negotiating legal opinions and  supervising the legal due diligence involving the business and transactions
  • Develop and maintain client and service provider relationships, co-ordinate with other risk management areas of JPMorgan, including Credit and Compliance departments
  • Coordinating and liaising with business, product and services specialists and within the Legal function regionally as well as globally
  • Providing legal analysis in relation to new business initiatives and products
  • Participating in product and industry working group calls and meetings
  • Assisting in the review and development of legal forms, policies, procedures and systems
 
  • Qualified lawyer with at least 2-5 years PQE; SG or HK qualification required with additional qualification preferred (English or NY or other Common Law jurisdiction)
  • Relevant work experience gained at an international financial institution or at a top tier law firm (a combination of experience is preferred)
  • In-depth understanding of loan documentation and debt financing products, including bilateral, syndicated, leverage finance loans, security documents and market forms for APLMA / LMA as well as secondary loan trading documents and market forms for LSTA / LMA
  • Experience in transactional workflow with a strong record of transaction management and execution and ability to work under pressure, prioritize and respond to business needs/goals
  • Solid risk management skills with an ability to identify/escalate issues timely and appropriately
  • Willingness and ability to provide quality service and promote and enhance JPMorgan franchise
  • Ability to communicate well and work in a cross-functional team to achieve common goals
  • Ability to adapt and apply legal skills in new businesses/areas with limited existing expertise
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Prior experience working in-house at an investment bank preferred  
  • English fluency required; Chinese language skills preferred
