JPM's wholesale business (Corporate and Investment Banking) is organised into two main groups - (a) Banking; and (b) Markets & Investor Services.

Market & Investor Services:
Fixed Income: Through its rates business, JPM makes markets, provides risk management solutions and arranges financing that help build and support corporations and financial institutions. The business consists of interest rates and derivatives products which provide tailored risk management solutions and execution to clients. JPM is a top-tier market participant for the interest rate swap market in India. JPM has been a market maker for FX, Forwards, swaps and other financial products in the foreign exchange and fixed income space.
Cash Equities and F&O: Solutions include offering institutional investors, client trade execution services across BSE & NSE, High Touch & Direct Market Access, fundamental research and sales services on equities and derivatives and clearing services.
Investor Services: JPM provides Direct Custody & Clearing Services mainly to Inbound Foreign Institutional Investors & Sub-accounts, Foreign Direct Investors and Foreign Venture Capital Investors. JPM also provides Custody, Clearing Services and Fund Accounting services to domestic Mutual Funds in India
The Asia Pacific Legal Department supports the full range of the Firm's business in the region. It is split into regional practice groups (based in Hong Kong/Singapore), which are aligned to each principal line of business and location teams which specialise in the specifics of the legal and regulatory environment of the jurisdiction in which each is situated. Legal support is provided by a combination of regional teams and location teams.
The Asia Pacific Legal Department is seeking to hire a highly motivated and experienced lawyer to provide advisory and transactional support to Firm’s treasury services, trade, custody and corporate lending business (collectively the “Practice Areas”) in India. The role will focus on assisting the India business management team in managing legal risks and to protect the reputation and franchise of the firm. The position is based in Mumbai.
You will provide legal advisory to the business groups and other stakeholders, including advice on existing and new Indian banking, financial services and other applicable general laws. You will focus on India, but will be required to ensure a consistent approach with elements of our global and regional policies and standards.
The position reports to the senior lawyer leading the Practice Areas in India.
To partner with and provide legal support and advice to the Firm’s treasury services, trade, custody and loan practice in India. This lawyer will assist in both advisory and transactional mandates.
In particular, primary legal support will include:
evaluating existing and new laws and regulations, issue identification, impact assessment, advising on risk mitigants and independently escalating legal risks, including prioritizing the broader interests of the firm;
conducting legal due diligence and drafting form contracts for new product and services initiatives;
reviewing, advising and negotiating loan and related security documentation;
drafting and negotiating a variety of contracts (custody, fund administration, trade, escrow, cash account and servicing agreements);
advising management and other functional partners on legal issues liaising with regional colleagues and product and services specialists globally within legal instructing and working with outside counsel.
Indian law qualified with at least 8-12 years legal experience (optimally, a combination of experience as in-house counsel in the financial services industry and as a lawyer in a top tier law firm).
Good drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills.
Experienced in financing / loans documentation.
Able to communicate well and work in a cross-functional team to achieve common goals.
Able to appreciate and grasp concepts of law from jurisdictions other than India.
Ability to identify and escalate issues in a timely and appropriately manner.
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and respond to business needs and goals.
Ability to adapt and apply legal skills in new businesses and subjects in which lawyer may not have expertise.
