The Firmwide Controllers organization is responsible for ensuring the overall integrity and validity of the financial statements and controls over the transaction cycle. The group performs critical reporting and controls functions for the organization, including legal entity, financial and regulatory, as well as product valuation. The team is also responsible for improving ongoing processes, and ensuring execution and implementation of the overall financial architecture.
Interentity Analysis Group (IAG)
Within Firmwide Controllers, IAG provides a controlled and structured review process for LOB transactions, and a resource for legal entity, financial, and policy expertise. IAG’s policy and Legal Entity involvement includes:
Ownership of the Legal Entity Reorganization and Capital Actions Policy, providing for review and approval of all Entity, Asset, and business reorganizations (Internal entity mergers, Regulatory pushout, etc.) and capital actions (dividends and capital investments) among JPM entities.
Ownership of the Legal Entity Affiliate Support Document Policy, providing for review and approval of all interentity guarantees and related support documents within the firm.
Acting as a required reviewer for all NBIAs globally throughout the firm, addressing Legal Entity, Regulatory, and other financial impacts for proposals across all LOBs.
Engagement in the Firm’s Legal Entity Strategy and Simplification Group. IAG advises all JPM Group businesses globally on the legal entity and related regulatory aspects of structuring and managing transactions and is an approver on all entity creation/dissolution proposals.
Overseeing certain activities within JPMC&Co (as a standalone entity) as a financial/bank holding company and operating company. IAG also focuses on legal entity connectedness and the overall relationships between JPMC&Co and its subsidiaries, including JPMCB.
IAG works closely with businesses and support groups in all regions - many initiatives have a global dimension and broad ramifications. To add value, IAG needs to understand the overall business and product contexts that it faces.
This Associate Role provides a unique opportunity to deliver IAG’s agenda and to support the firm through engagement in, and review of, LOB sponsored transactions as they impact IAG areas of focus. This will involve interaction with senior management from Legal, Tax, Compliance, Treasury and Finance through active involvement in the review of global transactions. Working with senior IAG staff and the transaction team, the role is to:
Review and opine on LOB transactions - supporting the IAG Transaction Team in the review, analysis, approval, and monitoring of the more complex LOB transactions and initiatives.
Lead development and application of policy as it relates to either the “RCA” or “ASD” policy.
Support IAG managers in execution of the Group’s deliverables for senior management.
The successful candidate will have direct exposure to senior LOB and departmental management, in doing so they will develop a broad subject matter expertise in IAG’s areas of interest and responsibility and a deep knowledge of regulation, finance, product, and firm issues, as well as the desired characteristics below:
Candidates for the role should possess the following characteristics:
Educated to degree level, evidence of further professional education, and six or more years work experience.
Delivery of Results, a demonstrated ability to rapidly and completely drill down on issues and close them out. Enabled by an ability to devise lasting solutions to the root cause of problems, providing thoughtful initiative, and attention to detail.
Interest in the review of complex deal structures, with a willingness to explore the broader policy, reputation, precedent or cross business perspectives of issues to consider and develop a strategic perspective. An ability to “join the dots” across issues, products, policies and regulations. Demonstration of sound judgment in arriving at recommended solutions is critical.
Product or technical knowledge (e.g. Accounting / Legal / Compliance) and an awareness of key banking regulations (e.g. Reg K, Reg W, Reg Capital). A good understanding of risk management and controls, and of JPM’s businesses and legal entity structure.
Behavioral competencies include: strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills, self reliance, creative thinking and influencing skills allied with an ability to interact positively with senior staff.
Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint, Sharepoint experience a plus.
